Wednesday Lotto win fortifies construction business

Thursday 23 May, 2013 - A man from Brighton breathed a sigh of relief this morning when he checked his Wednesday Lotto entry and discovered he’d won a division one prize of more than $600,000.

The business owner in his 50s said the prize money of $666,666.67 couldn’t have come at a better time.

“The construction industry has been down for a few years, and it’s starting to pick up a bit now, but it’s been a struggle keeping my business afloat for a while,” the winner said.

“I haven’t put any of my workers off in that time, which may have been to my detriment, but I didn’t want to let them down.

“Winning this money is a real relief because I can make sure the business survives and everyone keeps their jobs.”

The man said he had a hard time convincing his wife he’d won big this morning.

“I checked my ticket really early this morning and went in to wake my wife up to tell her at about 6am,” he said.

“I just said to her, ‘We’ve won lotto!’” he laughed.

“But she called me after I’d gone to work at about 9am and said, ‘Was I dreaming this morning, or did we really win?’ I was happy to tell her it wasn’t just a dream anymore!”

The man purchased his winning System 12 marked Wednesday Lotto entry from East Brighton Newsagency, 613 Hampton Street in Brighton. The winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

There were three division one winning entries in last night’s Wednesday Lotto draw in Victoria which will each claim a division one prize of $666,666.67.

Along with the winning entry from East Brighton Newsagency, one winning entry was also purchased online from

Another division one prize will be split between a 10-member syndicate who purchased shares in the entry from Westgarth Lotto and Sub Newsagency, 107 High Street in Westgarth. The 10 syndicate shareholders in Westgarth will each take home a $66,666.67 share of their division one prize.
