Resurgent Roar Tackle Reds

Adelaide United  will be out to buck a poor run of form when they host Brisbane Roar  in the second A-League elimination final at Hindmarsh Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Despite finishing fourth on the ladder at the end of the regular season, the Reds have won just one of their past seven matches.

Coach John Kosmina will be buoyed by the return of defensive lynchpin Nigel Boogaard from suspension for this match after the central defender missed last week’s 1-1  draw with Perth Glory. Scoring goals has been a bigger problem for the home side over the past couple of months however, with the Reds finding the back of the net just 11 times in its past 11 matches and Dario Vidosic  will need to lift leading the attack in this must win match.

While Adelaide’s form has tapered off in the second half of the season, Brisbane appears to have timed its run to perfection with just one defeat in the last seven weeks. They secured fifth spot on the ladder with a convincing 3-1  victory over Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium last weekend and will have been particularly pleased to see the likes of Thomas Broich  and Besart Berisha  showing signs of their best form. Albanian hitman Berisha has scored six goals in nine most recent outings and has found the back of the net five times from six appearances against the Reds.

There has been little to separate these clubs in 25 meetings in the A-League, with Adelaide victorious on nine occasions, Brisbane eight and the same number of fixtures finishing in a draw . All three clashes between the pair this season have ended with a 1-0  scoreline, with Brisbane winning both fixtures at Hindmarsh Stadium. The Roar is undefeated in their past four matches in Adelaide, while the Reds have won just one of their past five home matches.
