It’s A Dundeel  is the horse to beat in the Australian Derby at Randwick on April 13 after scoring dominant wins in the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas at his two most recent starts. His win by almost seven lengths in the 2000m Randwick Guineas had to be seen to be believed and it is hard to see any of his rivals from that day turning the form around, but there remains a query over his ability to run out a strong 2400m after he finished down the field in the Victoria Derby last November.

Fiveandahalfstar was victorious that day and beat older horses in the BMW on Golden Slipper day but has been ruled out of the Australian Derby after suffering an injury during the race, robbing the race of a major drawcard. Victorian raider Philippi  emerged as a Derby contender with his effortless three length win over Hippopus   in the Group Two Tulloch Stakes last week and looks sure to appreciate the step up in trip. Darley colt Solemn  marked himself as a stayer of potential with his win in the Geelong Classic last year but has been failed to find that form this preparation, while Hvasstan , Kingdoms  and Bloodbuzz Ohio  all come through the Rosehill Guineas. David Hayes is represented by Australian Guineas fifth Bass Strait  and Gerontius , with Mick Kent's High Shot  rounding out the ten horse field.
