Kelly Schweida’s smart three year-old colt Better Than Ready  heads a strong Queensland contingent being aimed at the Group One Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on March 9. The lightly raced galloper claimed his second black type success when taking out the Listed Falvelon Handicap at Eagle Farm on February 23 and emerged as a genuine contender for the $1 Million feature to be run down the Flemington straight. The form of his track record breaking win in the Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick last October stacks up well, with the runner-up to him that day a subsequent placegetter at the top level, and he will be hard to beat at the bottom of the weights.

Spirit Of Boom  finished 3rd in the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on his reappearance and is another strong chance for the ‘Maroons’ in the Newmarket. Although he is yet to win down the ‘straight six’ at Flemington, Tony Gollan’s stable star races well at the track and has placed at three of his five starts there, including an unlucky 2nd in a Group Two contest on Victoria Derby day.

Brisbane premiership winning trainer Rob Heathcote will rely of Group One winner Woorim , who will be looking to put a disappointing Oakleigh Plate performance behind him on Super Saturday, which also sees the running of the Australian Cup and Sires Produce Stakes for two year-olds.

Moment Of Change , runner-up to Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes, heads the betting for the 1200m event ahead of unbeaten Western Australian star Barakey  and fellow Perth contender Luckygray .
