Fresh from knocking seven time winner Liverpool out of the competition last month, Oldham Athletic  will be bidding for another big upset when they take on the Reds Merseyside rivals Everton  in the 5th Round of the FA Cup on Sunday morning (AEST).

Although they have been giant killers in the FA Cup, Oldham has struggled in the League this season and face a fight to avoid relegation from League One, where they are currently fourth from the bottom. Such has been the pressure at Boundary Park that manager Paul Dickov has stood down since the clubs famous win against Liverpool, with former youth coach Tony Philliskirk taking over as caretaker boss. He began his tenure with a 3-1 victory over MK Dons last weekend and is set to be further boosted by the return of strikers Matt Smith and Robbie Simpson. Smith scored twice in his sides 3-2  win over Liverpool in the last round but hasn’t played since.

Everton lost for just the fourth time in the Premier League this season when suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of champions elect Manchester United last weekend but had put together a seven game unbeaten run prior to that result. That sequence included the 2-1  win over Bolton that secured their place in the last 16 of the Cup and boss David Moyes could field the same team that did the job there for this match. Sylvain Distin is expected to return after missing out against United through illness, while Victor Anichebe should be fit to play after shaking off a knock that forced him to be substituted at Old Trafford. Fullback’s Seamus Coleman and Tony Hibbert are still injured and won’t be involved.

These clubs have met on 40 occasions in all competition and there has been little to separate the sides, who boast 14 wins each. When the pair last met, in an FA Cup 3rd round clash five years ago, the Latics shocked Everton with a 1-0  victory. The Toffees last FA Cup victory over Oldham was a 2-0  win in 1912.
