Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers have been the early season standouts in the A-League, and Friday night’s clash at Suncorp Stadium will decide which side takes a temporary grip on top spot on the ladder. The first-place Wanderers are yet to taste defeat so far this season and have overcome challenges from Central Coast and Melbourne Victory, while the Roar have had to battle through injuries in key positions to sit just two points behind Western Sydney.

Roar should welcome back Socceroos Matt McKay and Ivan Franjic who put in stellar performances mid-week against Costa Rica, plus Albanian strike force Besart Berisha . The feisty forward hasn’t played for the Roar since round two, but is set to slot straight back into the starting XI to lead the line and cause problems for the Wanderers’ back line.

In contrast, Western Sydney will be without injured leading scorer Tomi Juric for this week’s clash; they were missing a player of his quality up front last season, which ultimately saw them fall at the final hurdle, so it will be interesting to see how they go without him against quality opposition.

While the history between the two teams is short, Western Sydney has won all four games, including the 2-0 semi-final win that ended Brisbane's bid for a hat-trick of titles last season. In saying that, Brisbane has not lost a game at home since the Wanderers defeated them 2-1 in round 17 last season.
