Adam Scott almost threw away the chance to defend his Australian Masters title at the weekend, but eventually prevailed ahead of fellow big guns Vijay Singh and Matt Kuchar . The trio returns to Royal Melbourne this week for the World Cup of Golf where they should again be in contention for an event which features both an individual and team prize.

Scott made it back-to-back wins in his home country following on from his victory at Royal Pines in the Australian PGA Championship the week before. He lines up with another Queenslander, Jason Day , in the team side of this event representing Australia . Day will play in the tournament after losing eight relatives, including his grandmother, in Typhoon Haiyan which struck The Philippines.

American Kuchar was unlucky to miss out at Royal Melbourne at the weekend after he stumbled down the stretch, and he’ll partner Kevin Streelman for team USA . Italian siblings Edoardo and Francesco Molinari won the teams event back in 2009, and the latter will be back to fight for the cup again with the talented Matteo Manassero .

Other top liners include Graeme McDowell and Miguel Angel Jimenez . Frenchman Victor Dubuuisson comes in to the event in winning form after snaring the Turkish Open two weeks back, while China’s Liang Wen-Chong won the Manila Masters on the Asian Tour last week.
