Australia  will be looking to bounce back from a humiliating nine wicket defeat to India  on Wednesday when the sides renew hostilities at Mohali on Saturday. The tourists looked to be on course for another victory in game two after setting the hosts an imposing target of 360 but couldn’t contain India’s top order, which cruised to victory with six and a half overs to spare.

Each of the top five batsmen for Australia scored a half century during the week, but none of them went on with the job by reaching triple figures, although skipper George Bailey  was stranded on 92 not out at the end of 50 overs. If you take out the match against Scotland last month, Australian batsmen have scored just two One Day International centuries since the end of last summer and coach Darren Lehmann will want a better conversion rate from his top order. Aaron Finch  has three fifties from as many innings in India and needs to take advantage of his good form by going on to make a big score. The tourist’s bowlers lacked control in the second match of the series but there are unlikely to be any changes to the lineup at Mohali.

As hard as it would have been to believe at the change of innings, India’s top order outdid its opposite number at Jaipur, with Rohit Sharma  and Virat Kohli  finishing with unbeaten tons and Shikhar Dhawan  smashing 95 from just 86 deliveries. The top three was imperious on a docile wicket and will pose another big problem for Australia’s quicks at the Punjab C.A. Stadium but there could be some changes to the bowling attack. Ishant Sharma and Vinay Kumar looked out of sorts for the second successive match and could drop out of the XI with Mohammed Shami and Jaydev Unadkat waiting in the wings.

India’s recent record at Mohali is good, having won its past three One Day Internationals at the ground. Australia has won four of its past five at the venue however, including the two most recent meetings between the sides that were played here.
