Two mates from Eastern suburbs win $2 million Powerball prize!

Friday 11 January, 2012 - Two mates from Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs woke up today to discover they won a $2 million Powerball prize overnight!

The long-time friends in their 30s have been buying Powerball entries together since late last year, but never expected to have a major windfall in such a short time.

“We only started buying tickets together around three months ago,” one of the winning men said.

“When I checked the numbers this morning I called my mate right away to tell him, but he thought I was having him on.

“Then he checked the Powerball results himself and we’ve had a few beers for breakfast since!” he laughed.

The winners aren’t sure exactly how they’ll each spend their $1 million share of the prize, but there are a few ideas in the pipeline.

“I’m thinking about buying a beach house and doing some travel,” one of the winners said.

“We might even use some of the money to start a business together,” he added.

Around the country there were two winning entries to share in the $3 million Powerball jackpot overnight, each taking home a first division prize of $1.5 million.

Tatts Spokesperson Zoe Knobel said that because the Victorian men had won using a PowerHit Powerball entry, they’ll claim prizes in other divisions as well.

“A PowerHit entry guarantees you the Powerball and like a System entry, PowerHit gives you more chances to win multiple prize divisions,” Ms Knobel said.

“In this case, the entry won a first division prize of $1.5 million along with 44 second division prizes worth more than half a million dollars, making their total prize $2,056,485.60!”

The winning PowerHit entry was purchased online from

There were two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 869 on 10 January 2013, and each will claim a $1.5 million first division prize. Along with the Victorian winning entry, there was a winning ticket purchased in South Australia.

The winning numbers in last night’s draw were 7, 29, 13, 8 and 25 and the Powerball was number 37.
