You would expect the reigning champion of Europe to go in to its first group match of the season as a warm favourite when playing at its home fortress against a team making its return to the Champions League. Chelsea vs Juventus  is no ordinary match-up, though.

After a couple of lean years, Juve dominated Serie A last year, becoming the first team to go through the season unbeaten in its current 38-game format. Manager Antonio Conte developed arguably the stingiest defence in Europe, conceding just 20 goals during the season. The black and whites haven’t stopped there, posting three straight wins to start the 2012-13 season.

Chelsea stormed through its home matches in its 2011-12 Champions League title-winning campaign. The west London side carved a six from six record, finding the back of the net 17 times along the way, whilst conceding just twice. The Blues managed to keep four clean sheets at Stamford Bridge, including their 1-0 win over Barcelona in the last four. Roberto Di Matteo’s team has also started the Premier League season in fine fashion, taking ten points from its opening four matches.

Juventus has scored in its last 14 games, but be wary of taking the over 2.5 goals option, as this came through in just 21 per cent of games the bianconeri played away from home last season in Serie A, thanks to its miserly defence. They also settled for a draw in almost half their away matches, with 0-0 and 1-1 results coming up four times each.
