Australia has a strong chance of claiming gold on the opening night of action at the velodrome, with Anna Meares and Kaarle McCulloch a leading chance in the
Women’s Team Sprint. The pair finished second in the event at the World Championships in Melbourne earlier in the year after the German team defeated them in the final, setting a new world record in the process.
Matthew Glaetzer, Shane Perkins and Scott Sutherland represent Australia in the
Men’s Team Sprint and will confident of success after winning gold at the Track World Championships in April.
There are three Australians in finals action at the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre, with Melanie Schlanger our best hope of a medal after qualifying second fastest for the

Men’s 200m Backstroke final and
Women’s 200m Breaststroke final respectively.
At Eton Dorey, Australia has strong claims in the
Men’s Lightweight Four despite being the final team to qualify for the final, while we also have a crew in the
Women’s Eight final.
