Defending champion Petra Kvitova takes on tournament favourite Serena Williams in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Tuesday night, with a berth in the final four at stake. Both players were taken to three sets in the fourth round with Kvitova coming from a set down to beat 24th seed Francesca Schiavone, while Williams overcame unheralded Kazakhstani Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1 2-6 7-5.
The pair have met twice before on the WTA tour, with Williams triumphing on both occasions. Those meetings were in 2010 however, when the Czech ace was just establishing herself at the top level. When they clashed in the semi-finals here in that year, Williams recorded a straight sets victory after taking the opening stanza 7-6.
The other quarter-final on the Centre Court sees hard hitting German Sabine Lisicki - who beat world number one Maria Sharapova on Monday - take on compatriot Angelique Kerber . Second seed Victoria Azarenka set up a last eight showdown with Austrian Tamira Paszek after dropping just one game against Ana Ivanovic in the fourth round, while the final semi-final spot will go to the victor of the match between Agnieszka Radwanska and Maria Kirilenko .
