Doomben Racing Preview May 26

Grand Prix Stakes (BR5) – Peter Moody won this race last year with Turnitup and looks a strong chance of making it back to back wins with one of his three runners. Brambles beat several of these in the Rough Habit Plate a fortnight ago when he fought well to the line, while Soros contests this following a game 2000m win at Flemington. While those two are yet to prove themselves over 2200m, there are no such doubts about Vatuvei. The VRC St Leger winner showed his staying prowess in running away with the 2800m feature and is sure to be there at the finish. Isopach has been racing consistently well in good company but doesn’t win out of turn, while Euryale is the best of the fillies.
Selections: Soros, Vatuvei, Brambles, Isopach

Premier’s Cup (BR6) – Chris Waller has a knack of winning staying events with imported gallopers and he looks to have a great chance of taking out this race with Wazn. The former French galloper was strong to the line at the end of the 2000m Lord Mayors Cup at Rosehill on May 12 and will be hard to beat over an additional 200m here. Ironstein was finishing well in the Chairman’s Stakes two weeks ago and is another that will appreciate the step up in trip. He is drawn ideally in barrier one. Dance With Her warrants respect having won four of her six starts this preparation but is creeping up in the weights, while last year’s AJC Oaks winner Absolutely will come into calculations on a rain affected track. Mourasana ran Arc de Triomphe runner-up Shareta to 1.5 lengths last year and bears watching at a huge price.
Selections: Wazn, Dance With Her, Ironstein, Mourasana

Doomben 10,000 (BR7) **TattsBet $300,000 First Four Jackpot** - BTC Cup winner Sea Siren defeated most of these in the BTC Cup when running track record time and will again be hard to beat from gate seven. She should get a good run just behind the speed and will be there at the finish. Pampelonne made a big impression winning the Scone Guineas by 3.5 lengths last weekend to take his career record to four wins from six starts. Although this is a big step up in class, he has been mighty impressive going through the grades and you can’t rule him out. Buffering suffered a setback that ruled him out of the BTC Cup, but his best form is more than good enough to account for this field. He will get a good cart across to the rail from Adebisi and will be hard to catch. Beaded won this race last year and showed enough improvement in the BTC Cup to suggest that she will be competitive, while Phelan Ready and Woorim will be motoring home at the finish.
Selections: Buffering, Sea Siren, Beaded, Woorim

Chief De Beers Handicap (BR8) – Seek And Find returned to the track with a strong win over 1010m at this track a fortnight ago and will again run well from the inside draw. As he did at his last start, he will get a good sit behind the leaders from the inside gate and will be finishing strongly at the finish. Nuptse chased him home in that race and can be expected to race well second up from a spell- where she is unbeaten - but may struggle to close the gap being awkwardly drawn in barrier eight. Rob Heathcote’s team is flying at the moment and they are represented here by Excellantes. He drops 5kg after lumping 60kg last time out and is drawn to get the run of the race from barrier five. Havatryst has lost only once first up from a spell and will be running on well, as will Gundy Son, who looks well placed in this race.
Selections: Seek And Find, Excellantes, Nuptse, Gundy Son
