After a dominant 3-0 whitewash in the test series, Pakistan  will meet England  in the first match of their ODI series in Abu Dhabi. A disappointing England side has lost nine of their past ten international matches and skipper Alastair Cook has backed his side to improve after a disappointing start to 2012. Kevin Pietersen will open the batting for the first time since last year’s world Cup alongside skipper Cook.

England will be wary of an inform Pakistan attack spearheaded by Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal who took eight of the ten final wickets in the final test match of the series.

A rampaging Shahid Afridi will hope to torment the England batting line-up and reinforce his status as one of the best all-round cricketers in the world. Afridi claimed a five wicket-haul in the series warmup match against Afghanistan and is also returning from a successful summer in the Australian Big Bash series.
