All four runners that appeared in the Melbourne Cup final a fortnight back have made the Brisbane Cup final, but only just. Got A Moment , which claimed a surprise win in the big race at Sandown, finished an unlucky second in her heat to Miss Milkshake . Got A Moment’s time of 30.30 left her as first reserve, but Heat 3 qualifier Here’s To You has been given a 12-month suspension for his third marring offence, so the Cup winner will jump from box six on Thursday night.

Proven Nitro ran the equal best heat time of 29.86, and has drawn ideally in box one for the final. He should be able to make the most of the rails run, but Don’t Knocka Him is in the box next door and has the speed to get out in front. There was almost nothing between these dogs in the Sandown Shootout at the beginning of November, and if they both get unimpeded runs then the same could happen at Albion Park.

Queensland favourite Glen Gallon showed his brilliance by winning Heat 3 from box eight by four-and-a-half lengths. He’ll have to do plenty of hard work again to get across from box seven, and he’s fighting history to defend his title, as well, with Tricky Creek the only flyer to win back-to-back Brisbane Cups.
