Blues And Bulls Shield Showdown

At Allan Border Field at the start of this month, Queensland managed to topple a New South Wales XI featuring the likes of Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, David Warner and Mitchell Starc. At Manuka Oval in Canberra this week, the Bulls can stretch their lead at the top of the table after South Australia scored a rare outright win against Victoria at the MCG.

Former Blues left-hander Usman Khawaja was the mainstay with the bat for Queensland against his former team in the first clash this month, posting 54 in both innings, but it was unheralded quicks Luke Feldman and Cameron Gannon who did the damage with the ball. Gannon dismissed Australian skipper Clarke in both innings, something South Africa would no doubt love to be able to do in the current Test series.

Since beating NSW outright, the Bulls went down to Hobart to do a demolition job on Tasmania, while the Blues desperately need points after picking up just eight from their first four matches.

The weather is unseasonably warm, and, one might say, Brisbane-like in the nation’s capital. Hot conditions and storms are predicted over the first couple of days, so the heavy atmosphere could help the quicks but the draw could come in to play if a number of overs are lost on both days.
