Gold Coast family in disbelief after $1.5 million Powerball win!

Friday 23 November, 2012 - A Gold Coast family is in disbelief after discovering they’d won $1.5 million in last night’s Powerball draw 862.

The mother of the family said she checked the numbers online last night and circled them one by one on the ticket but couldn’t believe her eyes when all five numbers and the Powerball were marked.

“I just kept checking the numbers over and over again. I must have checked them almost 20 times before I began to realise that I hadn’t made a mistake,” the excited winner said.

“I regularly play Powerball and always buy a QuickPick entry. I figure if your numbers are going to come up they will.”

The Gold Coast family said they have a few plans for how to spend their $1.5 million windfall, but they will first take time for the news to sink in.

“First of all we are going to start shopping for a family home. With our new millionaire status we can look for a bigger one,” the winning woman said.

“My husband and I have also decided that we will treat the family to a Christmas holiday. It will be a Christmas to remember.”

Golden Casket spokesperson Elissa Lewis said this Powerball win was the second division one winning Powerball entry sold on the Gold Coast this year.

“In June, a Robina family first screamed and then went into fits of laughter after they discovered they’d won the entire $3 million division one prize pool in Powerball draw 839,” Ms Lewis said.

Last night’s winning Powerball ticket was purchased from News Extra Coles Upper Coomera.

There were two winning entries that each claimed $1.5 million in Powerball draw 862. Along with the Queensland entry, one winning entry was purchased in Victoria.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 862 on Thursday, 22 November were 6, 2, 20, 11 and 17. The Powerball was 21.
