Craig Lowndes will be bidding to win the Bathurst 1000 for a sixth time when he teams up with Warren Luff in Car 888  at Mount Panorama on the weekend. Lowndes has done particularly well around the 6.2km circuit in recent times, winning four of the past six renewals of the gruelling endurance race. His combination with Luff cannot be questioned either, with the pair combining at the Sandown 500 last month with success. After making a slow start to the season, their team has won the past nine races in the series.

Although he was Lowndes co-driver from 2006-2008 when the duo dominated the race with three straight wins, V8 Supercar series leader Jamie Whincup could present the biggest danger to his Team Vodafone colleague this time around. He will be joined in Car 1  by Paul Dumbrell.

The only other team that has managed a win in 2012 has been Ford Performance Racing, who has won nine of the 20 races to date this year. Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards in Car 5  is likely to be their best chance of winning the series showpiece event, although they have another live contender in Car 6 , which will be driven by Will Davison and John McIntyre.

Last year’s winning combination of Garth Tander and youngster Nick Percat are backing to defend their crown in Car 2  for the Holden Racing Team, who have recorded two wins and a third around the iconic Mount Panorama circuit in the past three years.
