Queensland Horse of The Year Buffering  will get his chance for a well-earned Group One win when he lines up in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday. Despite being placed at the top level on seven occasions, the five year old will be chasing his maiden Group One success in the 1200m event. In the absence of unbeaten superstar Black Caviar and her sparring partner Hay List, the Rob Heathcote trained galloper has taken the mantle of Australia’s leading sprinter and has lived up to that billing with two strong wins this preparation. After taking out the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley last month, ‘Buff’ scored a soft win against several of his likely rivals in the Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.

Sea Siren , who beat Buffering into second by just a short neck in the Doomben 10,000 earlier in the year, is likely to present the biggest threat to the favourite when she resumes from a spell in the race. Hallowell Belle  will also face the starter after resuming with a dominant win in the Gilgai Stakes at Flemington, while Lone Rock  and Bel Sprinter  are other leading chances engaged in the race.
