This is, without doubt, the grudge match of the season so far. Andre Villas-Boas was in charge of Chelsea for just nine months before he was unceremoniously dumped for Roberto di Matteo. The Portuguese manager is now in charge of Tottenham and after a slow start to the season, Spurs are in a group of four teams leading the pursuit of the ladder-leading Blues.

This encounter will give a realistic indication of where both teams are at in the domestic league. Chelsea has swept all before it so far, winning six of its first seven EPL games, but both teams are playing a side currently in the top five for the first time this season. In its last six visits to White Hart Lane, Chelsea has just three points from three draws to show for its effort.

This could well be a game of two halves. Chelsea is a fast starting team , having scored nine of its 15 goals this season in the first half, while at the back end, they’re still yet to concede a goal in the second half. If the Blues are in front at half-time, expect them to be able to defend their lead .

Tottenham, on the other hand, is yet to score at home in the first half of matches this season, but they finish with a full head of steam, having scored six in the second half of their four games at the Lane so far. With the likes of Jermain Defoe and dead-ball specialist Gareth Bale finding the back of the net regularly this season, Spurs are one team which has the potential to break down Chelsea’s wall at the back, even if they do fall behind .
