Robina retirees celebrate $968,750 Gold Lotto win

Friday 6 January, 2012 - A retired couple from Robina has had a wonderful start to 2012, after winning $968,750 in Gold Lotto’s $31 Million New Year’s Eve Megadraw.

The couple explained that they usually watch the draw on a Saturday night, but on this occasion, didn’t discover their win until Sunday morning.

“Being New Year’s Eve we were out on Saturday night, but as soon as we woke on Sunday we went down to our local newsagency to pick up a results slip,” they said.

“When we realised that we had matched all six numbers on the last line of our 36 game Jumbo QuickPick, it seemed too good to be true. We checked and rechecked and our numbers definitely matched up!

“We’ve been playing Gold Lotto every Wednesday and Saturday for as long as we can recall.

“We’ve always dreamed of winning division one, but when it happened it felt quite surreal!”

When asked how they planned to use their prize money, the couple said they would celebrate their win with a holiday, help their family and use the rest to top up their retirement fund.

The couple purchased their winning QuickPick from Nextra Robina, which sold two of the Gold Coast’s three division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto’s $31 Million New Year’s Eve Megadraw.

The third division one winning entry was purchased from newsXpress The Pines in Elanora.

The winning entry was registered to a Winners Circle card, but Golden Casket has not yet been able to contact the winner to confirm the good news.

Golden Casket Public Relations Executive Louise Azzopardi said she urges customers who purchased their Megadraw entries from newsXpress The Pines in Elanora and registered them to their Winners Circle card, to have their tickets checked at a Golden Casket outlet as soon as possible.

“You could be starting 2012 $968,750 richer!” she said.

There were 32 division one winning entries nationally in Gold Lotto’s New Year’s Eve Megadraw, including eight in Queensland. The winning numbers were 7, 8, 28, 33, 38 and 41, with supplementaries 4 and 37.
