2008 champion Maria Sharapova  will take on compatriot Ekaterina Makarova  for a place in the semi-finals at the Australian Open on Wednesday. The former world number one advanced to the last eight with a three set win  against in-form German Sabine Lisicki, while Makarova reached the quarter finals of a Grand Slam for the first time following her shock win over four time champion Serena Williams.

Unseeded Italian Sara Errani  takes on world number two Petra Kvitova  in the first match on Rod Laver Arena, while Andy Murray  faces Kei Nishikori  of Japan for a place in the men’s semi-finals.
