Following his epic four set win over little known German Cedric-Marcel Stebe on Monday night, Lleyton Hewitt  will have to draw on all of his fighting spirit to defeat fifteenth seed Andy Roddick  in a match that pits two former world number ones against each other. The pair have a long history, having faced off 13 times on the ATP world tour, with the first meeting eleven years ago in Miami. The American holds a 7-6 career advantage, but more importantly has won the past six times that they have met. Their last Grand Slam matchup came at Wimbledon in 2009, where Roddick prevailed in a five set match  that lasted just under four hours.

Prior to that match, Jelena Dokic  faces Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli  on Rod Laver Arena. The world number 64 breezed through to the second round, dropping just three games in her opening match but faces a much more daunting task against the ninth seed. The pair met at the Sydney International last week, with Bartoli registering an easy 6-0 6-3 win.
