Superstar Pacer Flying In Brisbane

Race Horse - Im Themightquinn

Having settled well in Brisbane, superstar  Western Australian pacer Im Themightyquinn  is on target for his much anticipated appearance at the 2014 Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival this Saturday night at Albion Park.

Over injuries and illness, the nine-year-old will compete in the Group 2 $60,000 Garrards Sunshine Sprint before backing up in the Group 1 $100,000 Blacks A Fake on Saturday 19 July, and then the champ may even go on to the Redcliffe Cup on August 1.

With earnings of $4.46M, there's a real chance Gary Hall's warrior will pass the all-time prize money record held by legendary Queensland pacer Black A Fake, who retired with $4,575,438 in the kitty.

Gun local driver, 22-year-old Peter McMullen, was given the opportunity of a lifetime, steering the best pacer in Australia in a  mid-week trial at Albion Park. Peter has driven hundreds of winners since being licensed from the age of 16, after he originally came through the mini-trotters ranks. He is the grandson of legendary Albion Park trainer/driver John “Hollywood” McMullen and the son of renowned Glamorganvale based trainer, John Jnr.

A rising 10-year-old, Quinnie had his first look at Albion Park winning Tuesday's trial by 15m, recording a sizzling mile rate of 1:51.9, which was just outside the track record. Good judges, including RadioTAB Harness expert Chris Barsby, reckon it was the best ever trial they've seen at the Creek. "It was just spectacular! I've been fortunate enough to call races featuring Blacks A Fake and Be Good Johnny, but this just took it to another level."

For local harness fans, this will be the first and last time Im Themightyquinn appears in Queensland. "He was just freakish. What he did in the trial has set the tone for the Carnival. Bring it on!" said Barsby.

Im Themightyquinn has had 108 starts for 56 wins and 33 placings, with a best mile rate of 1:53.5. Gary Hall Jnr will be in the sulky on race day. Normally superstars like Quinnie scare off the locals, but they are not backing down from the enticing challenge. Mach Beauty  and Avonnova have drawn the inside barriers and are pushing the multi-millionaire (who has gate 6) for favouritism.
