The ANZ Championship finals are underway, and the Melbourne Vixens who finished the season on top of the ladder, play the Queensland Firebirds on Monday evening in the Major Semi Final.
The Vixens have been favourites to win the title for much of the season and are fancied to advance straight into the decider. The last time these two sides met was back in Round 6, when the Firebirds went down 50-38 at home. This time they are in the Vixens' patch.
The loser of the Major Semi Final has a second chance to make the GF. They will back up against Waikato Bay of Plenty next Sunday. The Magic eliminated the NSW Swifts in dramatic fashion. After being in control for much of the match, the Swifts dropped off in the final quarter and Jo Harten netted a goal with two seconds remaining for the Kiwi side to win 50-49.
