Liverpool’s hopes of winning this season’s English Premier League title will be all but over if they fail to leave Selhurst Park with all three points against Crystal Palace . Manchester City’s win over Everton on Sunday morning saw the sky blues leap frog the Reds into top spot on goal difference, with two games remaining.
Liverpool's chances of a 19th league title were crushed last week when Chelsea stunned the then league leaders 2-0 at Anfield. That loss brought a 16 game undefeated streak in the league to an end for Brendon Rogers’ side and propelled City into favouritism to take out their second EPL title in three years. Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez will look to continue their impressive partnership up front, with 50 goals between them already this season. Liverpool should field a near full strength side, missing just defender Jose Enrique through injury and Jordan Henderson through suspension.
Crystal Palace has raised a few eyebrows this season, especially since the introduction of manager Tony Pulis in November. Last weekend’s lost to Manchester City marked the end of a five match winning streak, helped largely by their defensive efforts. Palace, like Liverpool, has been somewhat of a surprise packet this season. The Eagles currently sit in 11th position on the table, a respectable feat considering they were one of the favourites to be relegated to the Championship at the start of the season. With no injury or suspenison issues, Pulis should field a squad at full-strength.
Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park as firm favourites and justifiably so. The Eagles have impressed for much of the season and are capable of an upset, with wins over Chelsea and Everton already to this campaign. The Reds though have far more to play for in this game and a comfortable win for the visitors looks to be on the cards.
