Reds v Highlanders

Friday May 30 – 7:40 pm (AEST)

Highlanders: WLWWL

The Reds had the week off but, were last start losers, going down 30-27 to the Rebels at home a fortnight ago. The Highlanders suffered a heartbreaking 32-30 loss to the Crusaders in Dunedin.

Reds coach Graham has made a heap of changes due to both injury and form. Prop James Slipper returns from a three-week suspension for a lifting tackle. Flanker Liam Gill is also back from a calf injury. Ben Lucas replaced injured flyhalf Quade Cooper, who is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Rod Davies' return on the wing is the other change out wide. Hooker Saia Fainga'a (calf) and props Jono Owen (back) and Ben Daley (thumb) and flanker Eddie Quirk (knee) are all unavailable. Chris Feauai-Sautia (shoulder) are out for the season, while Lachie Turner (ankle) and Aidan Toua (pectoral) will return after the June Test window.

For the Highlanders Liam Coltman returns from a calf strain at starting hooker, while Gareth Evans will start in the number six jersey, forcing Elliot Dixon to the bench.

This is Will Genia's 100th game for his beloved state and surely the Reds can avoid a seventh straight defeat especially after the Maroons' loss on Wednesday night in Origin 1.

The Reds have won five of the last seven games against the Highlanders including three straight. But Richard Grahams' men are a team in turmoil, having lost their past six games including their last four at home. The Highlanders are almost always involved in tight games – their last four matches have been decided by two points or less for two wins and two losses.

Expecting this to be a tight one and maybe the Genia century can spur the Reds back into the winners' circle at home.
