With Buffering off to the paddock for a spell ahead of a spring campaign, Doomben 10,000 victor Spirit Of Boom will have to carry topweight of 58kg in the Stradbroke Handicap, if trainer Tony Gollan decides to run the iron sprinter. The Stradbroke is a Group 1 Handicap over 1400m run at Eagle Farm on Saturday, June 7.
All weights were elevated by 0.5kg following the omission of Buffering. It means class mare Red Tracer will carry 56kg – the same weight as Tiger Tees, Famous Seamus and Gollan’s other star, Temple Of Boom. Four-year-old Rebel Dane is second top-weight with 56.5kg, Smokin’ Joey has 55.5kg, River Lad 55kg and Hot Snitzel 54.5kg. All these runner are assured of starts.
At this stage, Chris Waller’s mare Arinosa (52.5kg) scrapes into the top 18. Other hopes just shy of making the field include Belltone, Platinum Rocker, Gregers, Pago Rock and Benny’s Buttons. They all need other horses higher in the order of entry not to accept. Exciting three-year-olds Hucklebuck and Dothraki will attempt to gain automatic qualification into the Stradbroke by winning this weekend's Queensland Guineas (1400m).
First acceptances will be declared on Wednesday, with final acceptances to be announced on Wednesday, June 4.
