Less than 24 hours after Queensland  named its side, NSW  revealed its 17. There were no real shocks in the Blues squad - a new halves combination (as had been rumoured) and a rookie winger. 15 of the 17 players have tasted origin before, with Daniel Tupou and Trent Hodkinson the only rookies. Following eight straight series victories, the Queensland selectors have also stuck with the tried and tested.

“The Maroons have made just one change and that’s only by necessity. With Sam Thaiday out injured, Chris McQueen is elevated to the starting 13 and Aidan Guerra comes onto the bench. The wily Queenslanders have basically stuck to a winning formula,” said TattsBet form analyst Gerrard Daffy.

As rumoured, Canterbury halves Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds were selected in a predictable NSW squad, with Roosters Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney dumped. With key forwards Greg Bird, Andrew Fifita and Boyd Cordner missing, the Blues have opted for experienced replacements. Back in the 17 are Beau Scott and Tony Williams, both having played origin before. Like Hodkinson, Roosters winger Daniel Tupou will make his Blues’ debut. “They have a new halves combination, considered by many as a bold move, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can step up on the big stage in light of their great form for the Doggies,” said Daffy. “But is this a side that can stop the Maroons from marching to a ninth successive series victory, I’m not sure.”

Queensland is   to win Game 1, with NSW . It’s pretty similar as far as the 2014 series betting is concerned, with the Maroons and the Blues .

The leading try scorer of all time in origin, Greg Inglis , is favourite to cross for the first four-pointer in this series. “GI has got 15 tries from 21 games already, so there’s every chance he can get the job done again,” said Daffy. Fellow Queenslanders Darius Boyd  and Brent Tate  are next best, as is NSW winger Brett Morris .
