Golf fans across the globe will shift their focus to the Colonial Country Club in Texas to watch some of the game’s biggest names battle it out in the Crowne Plaza Invitational.

The tournament, bar the four major competitions, is regarded as one of the biggest events on the golfing calendar. With a prize pool of almost $7 million, little wonder it attracts so many big names.

Leading the Aussie' hopes, as always, is newly crowned world number one, Adam Scott, who relegated Tiger Woods into second in the rankings over the weekend. Last year’s Masters Champion must perform well though to maintain his spot on top of the rankings, and that starts in Texas on Thursday. As many in the golfing world would know, it’s hard getting to number one, but even harder staying there. American Matt Kuchar , currently ranked fourth in the world, also features in the tournament.

Zach Johnson  is amongst the favourites to take out the first prize of $1.2 million in his home country. The American will look to emulate the form which saw him win this tournament in 2010 and 2012. Not only is Johnson a two-time winner of the event, he also holds the par and aggregate course records after blitzing the field four years ago. Americans tend to dominate the tournament and the best of the locals include Jim Furyk  and last year’s winner Boo Weekly .
