Multiple Group 1 winner, Streama, is one of the star attractions as the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival unofficially kicks off on the Gold Coast this Saturday.

Guy Walter’s five-year old mare has been nominated for the Hollindale Stakes, an 1800m Group 2 WFA event boasting $358,000 in stakes. Streama has won eight of her 32 starts, with 13 other placings, netting connections almost $2.1m in prizemoney. The daughter of Stratum is coming off a fourth, beaten 1.5 lengths, behind Diamond Drille in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes at Randwick a fortnight ago. In fact, the bay mare has raced in Group 1 company at her last four outings and this is a slight drop in class for her. A drier track will also help.

Chris Waller has nominated two progressive stayers – Junoob, who has won four of his last five runs, and Moriarty, the winner of 10 races and almost $1m in stakes.

Bart and James Cummings have entered grand old campaigner Precedence who returns to the track after some success last spring. A win in the Hollindale is worth $250,000.

Other major events on the eight race card include the Prime Minister’s Cup, the Silk Stocking, the Gold Coast Guineas, the Gold Coast Bracelet and the Ken Russell Memorial Classic.
