Cronulla Sharks v Penrith Panthers
Saturday April 26 – 3:05 PM (AEST)
It just goes from bad to worse for the Cronulla Sharks . Rumours flying around of star playmaker Todd Carney getting into mischief is the last this the club needs. Skipper Paul Gallen has called for his to lift coming into Saturday’s game against the Penrith Panthers , and they really need to.
The Panthers are looking to follow up from an impressive win over the Gold Coast Titans last Monday night. Peter Wallace and Jamie Soward controlled the game with pure class, their forwards led the way and James Segeyaro was again damaging off the bench. Ivan Cleary has named an unchanged squad, with Adam Docker cleared of a dangerous throw charge.
For the Sharks, something needs to change. The stars need to start earning their money. With a host of representative players to choose from, they are running out of excuses. The return of Paul Gallen last week added a bit of spark, but one man cannot carry a team, although sometimes it seems that way. Greg Inglis anyone? The Sharks have named winger Beau Ryan comes onto an extended bench and could play his first game of the season after injuring his neck in the finals last year. Hooker Michael Lichaa has been dropped, with Isaac De Gois replacing him on the bench.
An upset could be on the cards if the Sharks can start playing for each other and show the skill and class of last year. But that is a big if.
