Tuesday 25 March, 2014 - It was a case of better late than never when a Keperra couple finally came forward and claimed their Saturday Gold Lotto division one prize more than seven weeks after the draw!
The shocked couple admitted they were completely unaware Golden Casket had been desperately searching for the holder of the unregistered ticket which had won a first division prize worth $684,316.45 in Saturday Gold Lotto on 1 February 2014.
“I’d been away and left my Saturday Gold Lotto ticket in the car. My wife drove around for weeks with the winning ticket in the centre console!” the winner exclaimed.
“I didn’t even know he’d bought a ticket in the Saturday Gold Lotto draw,” his wife added.
“I was in the car on Sunday and spotted my Saturday Gold Lotto ticket and thought I better check it. I jumped on the internet when I got home and checked off all the winning numbers on my ticket. That’s when I discovered I’d won first division!” the stunned winner said.
The winning couple, who wish to remain anonymous, said it’s too early to say what they’ll do with their surprise windfall.
“I know the first thing we’ll do is pay off our mortgage!”
The winning Saturday Gold Lotto 50-game QuickPick was purchased at Supanews Keperra, Shop 5a in Great Western Super Centre, 1028 Samford Road in Keperra.
“It’s funny because that was the first time I had purchased a Gold Lotto ticket from that newsagency so it must be a case of beginner’s luck!” the winner said.
Throughout Australia, there were six entries that won a first division share of Saturday Gold Lotto’s estimated $4 million division one prize pool in draw 3395 on 1 February, each worth $684,316.45. Along with three winning entries purchased in Queensland, one each was purchased in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3395 on 1 February 2014 were 16, 41, 11, 45, 32 and 40 with the supplementary numbers of 7 and 28.
Meanwhile, Golden Casket is still looking for two mystery ticket holders who have won division one prizes in Queensland.
One missing winner may not be aware they’re now a multi-millionaire after their unregistered Wednesday Gold Lotto entry they purchased at NewsExtra DFO Cairns won a division one prize worth $2 million on 22 January 2014. Also, a $2 Casket winner who purchased their winning ticket from Woodridge News and Casket Agency has allowed more than three years to pass without claiming their $100,000 first prize from September 2010.
Golden Casket spokesperson Belinda McDougall said finding the Keperra winners is a reminder to customers to search for and check any old lottery tickets.
“With two missing winners in Queensland, who knows where the tickets may be stashed,” Ms McDougall said.
“If you believe you are holding either of the two winning tickets, we encourage you to keep it in a safe place and contact Gold Casket as soon as possible to start the prize claim process.
“This is why we encourage Golden Casket customers to register their lottery purchases to a Winners Circle Card because it ensures their prizes are secure and that we can give them that dream-come-true phone call if they win division one.”
It’s a timely reminder with tickets in this weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto $21 Million Superdraw now on sale from all Golden Casket outlets and online from Tatts.com.
