Monday 17 March, 2014 - It’s only appropriate that on St. Patrick’s Day a retired couple in Boronia are having the craic after claiming their $4 million prize from the weekend’s TattsLotto draw!
“You might say we had the luck of the Irish on the weekend!” the winning husband laughed.
“There’s a bit of a mix in our heritage but we have Irish ancestors, to be sure, to be sure! But green beer doesn’t appeal to me!” he joked to a Tatts official.
The winning couple, in their 80s, said they’ve been searching for their pot of gold for 40 years, since the first TattsLotto draw took place.
The winners are also demonstrating Irish family values as they plan to share their $4,015,702.19 windfall with children and grandchildren.
“We’ll be helping our adult children with their mortgages and will set up trusts for each of our grandchildren,” the winning man said.
“Truly the best thing about winning this prize is that our entire family will be financially secure for years.”
The winners said they don’t have plans to spoil themselves, but they are in the market for a new car.
“My wife needs a new car and my grandson suggested a Porsche, but I think we’d have a bit of trouble getting in and out of it at our age,” the winning man laughed.
“We’re also going to make donations to various hospitals in Victoria.”
The winning couple purchased their TattsLotto 12-game QuickPick entry from Boronia Junction Lotto, Shop 6 at 123 Boronia Road in Boronia. The winners have chosen to remain anonymous.
The entry from Victoria was the sole division one winning ticket purchased in Australia in TattsLotto’s estimated $4 million division one prize pool draw on 15 March 2014, and the winning couple will claim the entire prize of $4,015,702.19.
The winning numbers in TattsLotto draw 3407 on 15 March 2014 were 39, 38, 36, 33, 43 and 13 with the supplementary numbers of 20 and 41.
