Friday 28 February, 2014 - It was a case of three times a charm for an Innisfail newsagency after it sold its third division one winning ticket in less than seven months!
An Innisfail woman is the newsagency’s latest customer celebrating after winning the entire $6 million jackpot in last night’s Powerball draw.
The retiree was completely unaware she’d become a multi-millionaire overnight when Golden Casket contacted her with the life-changing news this morning.
“Oh my gosh! How much did you say?” the winner questioned in disbelief.
“I’ve been struggling for so long. You mean to say I can now afford to do better things in my life?” the emotional winner said.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she will take some time to think about what she’ll do with her multi-million dollar Powerball windfall.
“I do want to share my windfall with my family. They’ve worked so hard so I want to help them,” she added.
The winning 12-game QuickPick Powerball entry was purchased at Book Centre Newsagency, 34 Edith Street in Innisfail.
Last August, Book Centre Newsagency sold an $839,000 division one winning Saturday Gold Lotto ticket, and just eight weeks later sold a first division winning Saturday Gold Lotto entry worth $711,000!
Newsagency co-owner Hughie McDonnell was excited that they’ve sold their third division one winning entry in less than seven months.
“I think we’re putting Innisfail on the map,” Mr McDonnell joked.
“In all seriousness, it is a great boost for this town which is still struggling after two cyclones.”
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 928 were 34, 1, 18, 30, 22 and 14 and the Powerball was number 17.
