Former Collingwood star, Dale Thomas, is expected to line-up for Carlton  in the NAB Challenge match against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium, while ex-Blue Eddie Betts won’t be taking on his old club. Thomas missed Carlton’s first round win over North Melbourne because of illness. Matthew Kreuzer, Kade Simpson, Heath Scotland, Jeff Garlett and Michael Jamison are primed to return after sitting out the match in Ballarat.

Betts was explosive in his Crows debut, kicking five goals in a 60-point win over Port Adelaide. However, the crafty goal-sneak has been denied the opportunity to take on his old team mates. That’s been put on hold until round 10, when Adelaide travels to the MCG to face Carlton on May 24. Betts played the entire match in round one and the club doesn’t want to over-tax him heading into the new season. He’s likely to be back for the Crows’ final trial against GWS in Blacktown. Other experienced campaigners such as Scott Thompson, Ben Rutten, Andy Otten and Jared Petrenko, as well as draftee Riley Knight have been included. Veteran recruit James Podsiadly has also been named for the Crows.

After successful starts to the pre-season competition, both Carlton and Adelaide  would love to finish it unbeaten. The Crows have been buoyed by recent off-field news that the Bendigo Bank has taken over from Westpac as a major sponsor.
