Second in the English Premier League, Arsenal is keen to test its wares against German super-club Bayern Munich , which is defending its Champions League Crown. Down on troops, the Gunners did a great job to hold-off Liverpool 2-1 in last weekend’s FA Cup clash, avenging a recent 5-1 premiership defeat at Anfield. The effort was even more meritorious when you consider boss Arsene Wenger rested first choice goal keeper Wojciech Szczesny, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Kieran Gibbs and Olivier Giroud.

The Gunners are under-dogs for the first leg of the round of 16 tie against a team which is unbeaten this season and 16-points clear at the top of the Budesliga. But they are not without hope. Wenger’s troops came close to knocking the German side out of this competition at the same stage 12-months ago. Though outplayed 3-1 at the Emirates, Arsenal won 2-0 in Germany.

Bayern boasts red-hot form this season - unbeaten in 21 Bundesliga starts, winning 19 and drawing the other two. The Bavarian club’s form includes a last-start 4-0 victory over Freiburg and a 2-0 success over FC Nurnberg. Though they may not be in the same league as international mega-stars Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, Bayern's Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery are great players and control the midfield, regularly setting up leading goal-scorers Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Muller.
