Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has said he would prefer Showdowns didn’t occur in the pre-season, but that what he has got on Sunday when Power meets Adelaide for the first time in 2014 in the NAB Challenge. The Crows’ fall from grace was every bit as spectacular as Port’s rise to the finals last season, but it is Adelaide which has named the stronger team for Sunday’s clash at Richmond Oval in the western suburbs of the City of Churches.
Hinkley has left Jay Schulz, Justin Westhoff and John Butcher out of his squad for the clash, with the teams meeting again in six weeks’ time. While Crows coach Brenton Sanderson is waiting for Taylor Walker to recover from the knee injury that ended his 2013 campaign, he has thrown recruits Eddie Betts and James Podsiadly in to the squad for this clash.
Power has a sprinkling of new faces to show off, as well. Livewire former Tigers forward Matt White and Jared Polec - who failed to deliver in Brisbane due to injury and lack of form after he was taken at No. 5 in the 2010 draft – will get the chance to impress first up. Irishman Daniel Flynn is also set to get an opportunity after he excelled at the AFL Draft Combine in October.
