The Western Sydney Wanderers are standout favourites to win this weekend’s derby and they will be hoping the gulf in class between the two outfits, on paper, can translate in to a much-needed three points. Without a win in their last two matches, the second-placed Wanderers are losing touch with league leader Brisbane Roar, so they will be striving to put in a standout derby performance after a lacklustre 3-1 loss to ninth-placed Wellington last week.
Sydney FC fans, however, have been quick to point out that in a derby, current form flies out the window. Despite Sydney FC having won just one of its last 15 A-League games away from home, the Wanderers are yet to beat their cross-town rival at Parramatta Stadium.
Sydney will be hoping this trend can continue as it is in fifth spot, and has won just one match in its last five, so a loss this week means the glamour club is in danger of slipping out of the finals race. Frank Farina’s team will have to do it, though, without the services of Richie Garcia (ankle) and Nick Carle (suspension). The Wanderers have promoted Mateo Poljac and Matthew Spiranovic to their match day squad, which sees Brendon Santalab dropped.
