Feature Race Preview - September 14

Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (MR6) – Super Cool was reportedly in need of the run when he charged home for third behind stablemate Atlantic Jewel in the Memsie Stakes and looks the one to beat here. He will have benefitted enormously for that hitout and comfortably beat It’s A Dundeel in the AAMI Vase at his only visit to this track. Fiorente is yet to win in three starts since being transferred to Gai Waterhouse from leading UK trainer Sir Michael Stoute but has been ultra-impressive. He had little luck again in the Memsie Stakes and will get a good run from barrier two, while he will also appreciate the step up to a mile. Happy Trails beat subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon in this event last year and will run an honest race here again, while unbeaten four year-old Desert Wizard faces a huge step up in class for in-form trainer Nigel Blackiston but is clearly progressive.
Selections: Super Cool, Fiorente, Desert Wizard, Happy Trails

Golden Rose (SR7) – A big field of seventeen runners have been engaged for this contest and any number of gallopers appear to have a winning chance. Victorian galloper Prince Harada lost his unbeaten record to Fast ‘N’ Rocking in the McNeil Stakes last time out and has enormous potential but could be vulnerable after getting barrier one. He looked very green in that race and didn’t appear to enjoy racing inside other horses so could be vulnerable from that draw. Fast ‘N’ Rocking may have only broken his maiden last time out but has raced consistently well at the top level throughout his career, is well drawn in gate five and will get a gun run. Cluster is still a maiden but arguably produced the run of the race when storming down the outside against the track bias in the Run To The Rose last time out after getting back from a bad gate and will be much closer from barrier seven. Golden Slipper runner-up Sidestep has had no luck at either start this campaign and will be in the finish if he can rediscover his best form.
Selections: Fast ‘N’ Rocking, Cluster, Sidestep, Prince Harada
