Feature Race Preview - August 24

McKenzie Stakes (MR4) – A small but select field is engaged here, with Darley’s unbeaten Long John heading the field. Although this is a significant step up in grade, he has done nothing wrong in three career starts and will give a good account of himself, although he will be better over further. Speedy Bel Esprit gelding Clevadude beat highly rated Kiwi youngster Cauthen here three weeks ago and will be hard to beat but there is reason to believe the Andrew Campbell trained galloper can turn the tables on him. He is better off at the weights now and will be suited by the extra 200m here. Shamus Award is still a maiden but ran well in black type races last season and will give a good account of himself.
Selections: Cauthen, Long John, Clevadude, Shamus Award

Warwick Stakes (SR6) – Seven individual Group One winners have been entered in this event, with four of Chris Waller’s six runners having won at the highest level. Hawkspur and Beaten Up are likely to finish closest from his stable with residual fitness from the Brisbane Winter Carnival on their side, but all six are likely to find this too short. Rain Affair was a dominant winner of the Missile Stakes last time out and will be hard to beat but is short enough in the market given his preference for some give in the ground. Toydini and Streama both trialled well for Guy Walter and will be better suited by this trip than several of their rivals, with preference for the latter. The ultra-consistent mare is reportedly only having a light preparation during the spring so will be wound up for this contest under favourable conditions.
Selections: Streama, Rain Affair, Toydini, Beaten Up

Show County Quality (SR8) – Another great field for the final event of the day at Warwick Farm, with a host of classy gallopers engaged. Rebel Dane looks fairly treated at the weights with just 54.5kg given his form ties in very well with multiple Group One winner Pierro and he is clearly the one to beat. He is well drawn, has Glen Boss aboard and trialled well. Norzita and Appearance are the class runners in the race but have been weighted up to their best and have bigger fish to fry later in the spring. Sizzling, Riva De Lago and Title are all capable of running into a place at their best.
Selections: Rebel Dane, Appearance, Riva De Lago, Sizzling
