Monday 19 August, 2013 - A Charters Towers couple who were only chatting last night about what they’d do if they won Lotto, now have to think seriously about it after they discovered their dream had become a reality and they’d won more than $1 million in Saturday Gold Lotto!
The locals, who wish to remain anonymous, said they only found out they were Queensland’s newest millionaires this morning when they checked their Saturday Gold Lotto ticket which had won a share in division one worth $1,057,283.92.
“I thought we might have won a couple of grand but a million! It’s marvellous,” one winner giggled.
“We were only talking about it last night and said we’d have a couple of beers if we won.
“Now we’ll really have to think about it but we will be paying off the mortgage.”
The unregistered winning division one ticket in Saturday Gold Lotto was purchased at The Queenton Paper Shop, 278 Gill Street in Charters Towers.
Owners Lance and Danny Birkett said the news spread quickly around town yesterday that they’d sold a division one winning entry.
“Everyone has been checking their tickets!” Mrs Birkett said.
“It’s so exciting to know one of our customer’s has won division one.”
Throughout Australia, there were four entries that won a first division share of Saturday Gold Lotto’s estimated $4 million division one prize pool, worth $1,057,283.92. Along with the winning ticket purchased in Charters Towers, a winning entry was sold in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3347 on 17 August 2013 were 5, 42, 33, 45, 27 and 35 with the supplementary numbers of 16 and 4.
There is another chance for players to win big this week with $13 million up for grabs in tomorrow’s Oz Lotto draw!
