St George Illawarra  will be without a host of key players when they tackle the Sharks  at WIN Stadium on Saturday night, with New South Wales representatives Josh Dugan and Trent Merrin joining an already crowded casualty ward at the club after picking up respective thumb and knee injuries. With Matt Cooper, Dan Hunt and Gerard Beale also on the list of players ruled out for the season, the Dragons depth is being seriously tested and several youngsters get another chance in the top grade this week. Charly Runciman and Will Matthews both return this weekend, while Adam Quinlan and Josh Drinkwater also get another chance in the NRL. With Dugan out, Jason Nightingale moves to fullback.

Beau Ryan and Anthony Tupou both return from injury for Cronulla, who could drop out of the top eight with defeat to the lowly Dragons. Luke Lewis was a late inclusion in the Sharks lineup for last week’s 18-14 defeat to the Knights and has been named again, but Wade Graham will sit this one out after succumbing to a persistent shoulder injury.

Prediction

The Dragons have a strong recent record against the Sharks having won seven of the past nine meetings between the clubs, including a 25-12 success at Cronulla in round four this year. They are decimated by injury at the moment however and just nine players remain from the squad got that result. They will give their best but are likely to come up short and could lose by a margin of six or less points for the sixth time during the current campaign. Cronulla Sharks by 6
