Sydney man claims a staggering $30 million Powerball prize!

Friday 19 July, 2013 - A local man who purchased his Powerball entry in North Ryde has claimed the entire division one prize pool worth a whopping $30 million following last night’s draw!

The man said he discovered he had the winning numbers after checking his unregistered entry this morning.

“I was reading the newspaper while drinking my coffee and decided to check my Powerball ticket,” the happy winner explained.

“I initially thought I’d won $7,000. It wasn’t until I checked it again that I realised I’d won division one!”

The shocked winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he doesn’t know what he’ll do with his Powerball windfall as he’s still trying to come to terms with being $30 million richer.

“I love to travel so travel will definitely be on the agenda!”

NSW Lotteries spokesperson Belinda McDougall said because the winning ticket was not registered to a NSW Lotteries Players Club card, NSW Lotteries had no way of contacting the winner.

“Instead of being able to contact the winner to let them know they were a millionaire thirty times over, we had to wait for the winner to contact us,” Ms McDougall said.

“NSW Lotteries always recommends players register their entries to a NSW Lotteries Players Club card as it ensures their prize is secure and we can contact them directly with news of a division one win.”

The $30 million Powerball win in North Ryde comes just a fortnight after two entries from Sydney picked up $25 million each after sharing in Oz Lotto’s $50 million jackpot.

Powerball’s total division one prize pool of $30,000,000 was won by a single entry from New South Wales. The unregistered entry was purchased from Newsfront, Shop 124 in the Macquarie Centre, Herring Road, North Ryde.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 896 on 18 July 2013 were 26, 30, 36, 32, 29 and 15. The Powerball number was 4.
