Sir John Monash Stakes (MR6) **TattsBet $172,300 Trifecta Jackpot**
- Mrs Onassis won the Group One Oakleigh Plate the last time that she raced over this course and distance and will be hard to be here again based on the strength of that victory. She races best when ‘fresh’ as she is here and is drawn perfectly in barrier three. She could be facing a future star in Happy Galaxy however, who won his final four starts last preparation including the Group Two Expressway Stakes against older horses. Connections have talked about trying to get him to the Hong Kong Sprint at the end of the year and he would have to be winning this to go there. Zamorar has finished in the placings at eight of his past nine starts and is sure to be in the finish after making a pleasing reappearance behind Pago Rock at the end of June, while David Hayes’ galloper is himself capable of being thereabouts in a race like this.
Selections: Happy Galaxy, Mrs Onassis, Zamorar, Pago Rock
Tattersall’s Mile (BR7)
– Lucky Hussler has been knocking on the door of a feature race win during this preparation and gets his best chance to collect the winner’s cheque in this contest. He has finished in the placing at his past three starts, including when he was just over half a length behind Sizzling at set weights in the Qld Guineas last month. If he can reproduce that form, he is clearly the one to beat. Sydney visitor Loaded was ultra-impressive winning at Eagle Farm a week ago over 1500m and has been giving his chance in a black-type event by trainer Grant Allard. Although this is a big step up in class, he can be competitive. Topping drops back in trip to a mile after modest performances over 2100m at his past two starts and will run well based on his narrow second to Transporter over course and distance four starts back. Solebid and Jetset Lad warrant respect.
Selections: Lucky Hussler, Loaded, Topping, Jetset Lad
