Australian driver Mark Webber will be determined to win his first race of the season at the British Grand Prix on June 30. The Red Bull-Renault driver has finished on the podium just twice this season but will be confident of a being in the finish at Silverstone having won there twice in the past three years. He also finished 3rd behind Spaniard Fernando Alonso at the circuit two years ago and was 2nd to teammate Sebastian Vettel at this event in 2009.
Vettel scored his third win of the year when leading from start to finish at the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this month and has opened up a 36 point lead over Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the driver’s standings. Alonso’s wins in China and Spain make him the only other driver to have won more than one race in 2013, while Kimi Raikkonen (Australia) and Nico Rosberg (Monaco) are the only other men to have finished first in a Formula One race this season.
The best chance of a local win appears to be Lewis Hamilton , who won this event in 2008 and was on the podium for the third time this season at the Canadian Grand Prix. Fellow Brit Jenson Button has struggled in 2013 and could only be considered an outside chance of being in the finish.
