The first two horses home in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last month lock horns again in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday night (AEST), with Just The Judge looking to turn the tables on Sky Lantern. After it looked as though Just The Judge had opened up a race winning lead, Richard Hughes produced his mount inside the final 100m to run the Charles Hills trained filly down, although she has since gone on to register a classic success of her own having taken out the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh.
Sir Michael Stoute has won the race four times and relies on the unbeaten Pavlosk, who scored a dominant win in a Listed event at York last time out. She is one of two fillies in the race owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah, with two-time Melbourne Cup winning trainer Dermot Weld saddling up Big Break, who was fourth on her seasonal reappearance behind Just The Judge at the Curragh. Fellow Irish handler Aidan O’Brien has Snow Queen engaged, while Siyenica adds a French flavour for Alain De Royer-Dupre, who prepared Dunaden for his Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup triumphs.
