Feature Race Preview May 4

Prime Minister’s Cup (QR7) – A full field of 16 starters are set to face the starter in this event and plenty of them look to have a winning chance. Hot Snitzel  was a dominant winner at Rosehill on Golden Slipper day and is sure to run another good race on a track where his only previous start saw him record an emphatic six and a half length victory. Despite having to carry topweight and jump from an awkward draw, he has two wins and two placing from four starts in Queensland and excels in the sunshine state. Famous Seamus  was a good winner at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago and can follow that up with another strong showing, while Belltone , Phelan Ready  and Steel Zip  will be running on well at the finish.
Selections: Hot Snitzel, Famous Seamus, Belltone, Steel Zip

Hollindale Stakes (QR8) – Lights Of Heaven  looks very well placed in this contest by leading trainer Peter Moody, with the mare looking to go one better than last year when she finished a nose behind Shez Sinsational. She was a dominate winner of a Group Three event on Golden Slipper day and a repeat of that performance would see her go very close. Danleigh  may be nine but showed that he is racing as well as ever by finishing fifth in the Doncaster. He is untested over this trip but there is no reason to think that he won’t run 2000m. Stablemate Stout Hearted  finished powerfully over a mile last time out and can give a good sight at big odds stepping up in trip, while the best of the locals appears to be Solzhenitsyn .
Selections: Lights Of Heaven, Stout Hearted, Danleigh, Solzhenitsyn

South Australian Derby (AR7) – This is a South Australian race only by name, with 13 of the 15 runners trained in Victoria. The locals appear to have a strong chance in Hioctdane  however, who was a dominant winner of the Chairmans Stakes. That race has been a good guide to this event in recent years and the Richard Jolly trained galloper is sure to run well. Shoreham  proved that he can stay 2500m with a three and a half length win in the Galilee Final at Flemington and that form is likely to be good enough for this event. Gerontius  finished strongly in the ATC Derby for fourth and will find this much easier, while Hvasstan  also comes through that race and will appreciate returning to race in the anti-clockwise direction.
Selections: Shoreham, Hioctdane, Gerontius, Hvasstan
