**TattsBet $100,000 Quadrella Jackpot (BR6, BR7, BR8 & BR9)**
Chief De Beers Handicap (BR6)
– There should be plenty of pace in this event with Excellantes, Audacious Spirit and Karuta Queen likely to set a hectic pace from the start. Excellantes could fare best of the speedsters, having run a big race to finish second over 1000m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago. He loves this course and distance (five starts for three wins and a second) and will be in the finish. With the speed sure to be on, backmarkers are likely to be suited, with Rob Heathcote also having a handy pair in Griffon and Gundy Son. The stablemates finished alongside each other in the same race that Excellantes came through but should get more pace here. ‘Gundy’ won this two years ago and should get a great run from barrier five.
Selections: Gundy Son, Excellantes, Griffon, Karuta Queen
Grand Prix Stakes (BR7)
– Murray Baker has enjoyed plenty of success in Australia this season and he looks set to unveil another smart galloper in Ambitious Champion this weekend. Never worse than second in six career starts, the son of Zed produced a huge finishing burst after copping a check on the turn to win over 2000m at his last start and will be suited by a step up in trip. Hawkspur was a dominant winner of the Rough Habit Plate against many of these rivals last time out and warrants respect again from a good draw. Tonopah probably wasn’t suited on the slow surface in that event and will be much improved on better going, while Rhythm To Spare was a good winner at Sandown earlier this month.
Selections: Ambitious Champion, Hawkspur, Tonopah, Rhythm To Spare
Doomben 10,000 (BR8) **TattsBet $50,000 First Four Jackpot**
- Your Song ran away with the BTC Cup by five lengths against many of these rivals a fortnight ago but is unlikely to get things his own way in this race. Drawn in barrier 15, Hugh Bowman will have to be at his best to get the horse into a good position from out there but he is obviously a very smart galloper. Rain Affair ran well behind Your Song at Eagle Farm and is likely to be in the finish again from a good draw. Better Than Ready will get a gun run from the inside gate and will be better suited on firmer going, while Epaulette and Buffering look like the other main chances.
Selections: Rain Affair, Your Song, Better Than Ready, Epaulette
Premier’s Cup (BR9)
– Midsummer Sun has won both of his starts in Australia since arriving from Europe and will be hard to beat again in this contest. He has form around some top level middle distance horses in the UK and still appears to be ahead of the handicapper over here. Less Is More is another import that appears to be progressing nicely. While this is a big step up in class, he will be suited by the step up in trip. Zennista ran well enough in the Lord Mayor’s Cup last week to suggest that she will be competitive, while Savanah Rush is another Kiwi will strong form over this sort of trip.
Selections: Midsummer Sun, Less Is More, Zennista, Savanah Rush
