The Newcastle Knights  will be out to extend their winning run against the Sharks  to six matches when the two clubs do battle at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Neville Costigan has been added to the squad that recorded its first away win of the season on the Gold Coast last weekend, although Kurt Gidley has been moved back to hooker after starting at halfback in that match.

Sam Tagatese joins the Sharks squad that suffered a fourth straight defeat when going down 24-8 to the Bulldogs in round seven, while Todd Carney will continue to press his claims for a State of Origin jersey in his second back from injury.

1st Tryscorer

James McManus  is one of the most underrated players in the competition and has begun 2013 in great form, at times outplaying his more esteemed partner in crime Akuila Uate. He has three tries from his past two matches and has twice been the first tryscorer this season.

Beau Ryan  started the year with two tries in his first three matches but has struggled ever since, failing to score in any of the next four. A big off season signing from the Tigers, coach Shane Flanagan will want to see more from the 27 year-old.

Prediction

The Knights are four from four at home this season while the Cronulla is yet to win away from Sharks Stadium in four attempts. Newcastle has won five in a row against Cronulla and shouldn’t have much trouble adding another success against a side that is well below its best at the moment. Newcastle Knights 13+
